Save Magas: The Modern and Ottoman side of Athens

Athens, Greece

(12 customer reviews)

In the early 20th century, the princess of the royal family of Iraq visited Rhodes and fell in love with a poor Greek musician of rebetiko songs. The two lovers run away together and secretly wed in Athens, inciting the anger of the Sultan, who was determined to do anything to keep them apart. Eventually, the Sultan found Magas, the Greek musician, and imprisoned him in a secret facility in the heart of Athens. Join Princess Flame on her quest to liberate Magas and unravel the hidden corners and secrets of both Ottoman and modern Athens!

*Based on a true story that captured headlines in the newspapers of its time. This story also served as the inspiration for the 1936 song “Εgo thelo prigipessa” (I want a princess), composed by the renowned musician of rebetiko, Panagiotis Toundas.

This is a hybrid game, so you’ll use the Narratologies app to discover places, read stories, and solve riddles to discover your next stop. Along your way, you will meet our treasure hunt facilitators, who will assist you with the game play and offer you tasty local Greek goodies.

The ultimate activity for groups visiting Athens! Massive thanks to Floga, our lovely belly dancer character, who did an excellent job of providing relevant information and insight into the history of Athens/Greece and the mission of the Tour. Every detail, made the treasure hunt enjoyable for all the time that we were playing. A new way to see the city!

Floga was really friendly and shared so much information and in a fun and exciting way. It was amazing for the children (ages 7 and 11) and adults as well. Highly recommended it, it is a really fun and interactive way to discover Athens city. Also enjoyed the snacks, really kept everyone going!

Save Magas was a fun activity for our family! We walked Athens and visited buildings and destinations we would have never seen, but also wove in and out of busy squares and the Plaka. We loved it. The app contains detailed info concerning the places we visited. A few of the clues had us confused, but Natasha had provided her cell to text with questions. We enjoyed some delish and interesting Greek food included in the tour, but this was not a food tour. I suggest placing the app on all devices in your group prior to starting the tour and you need access to data outside of Wifi while on the tour. In hindsight, I would have brought a paper map for perspective, not for navigation. We also went at 6pm when temps were cooler. We concluded near the Agora in the Plaka and stayed for a lovely dinner close by. PS: If your family is not adventurous or not comfortable exploring outside the lines, this particular tour may not be for you. Would recommend to friends. 😉

I went on this scavenger hunt with a few friends and my boyfriend for his birthday. Super fun way to get to know the city. Our guide Maria, was super nice and friendly. She even brought a candle/dessert for my boyfriends birthday. 🙂

This was a fantastic way to spend the morning in Athens! We walked and sampled local foods, but mostly we enjoyed that it was self paced. We loved that we learned so much, got to see so many ancient sites, and even saw some amazing street art! We look forward to trying more of these tours!

This is definitely one of the best city tours I had. Very interactive and team building (we had it at our corporate retreat). You can look at Athens at different angles, not typical ones. Moreover to say, we had pit stops to take some national food. It was amazing! The Narratologies team does a really good job. That was fun! Thank you! =)

A fun experience! The tour takes you to some places you otherwise might miss out on. Maria was great 🙂 Would have liked a couple of more food stops though.

The guides were very nice and kind. We discover Athens in a different way! They are two good snacks during the hunt.

This was such a fun and different way of exploring Athens. We would have most likely not seen some of the areas we visited on this treasure hunt otherwise. Highly encourage doing it. And it’s not too complicated. Questions are simple. But be ready to walk. We finished the hunt in a little more than 2.5 hours – which meant we walked non-stop for those many hours.
