School Trip in Thessaloniki with Mandoulides Schools

Posted on June 17, 2024

This May we organised an exciting school trip in Thessaloniki with Mandoulides Schools. Two hundred 5th and 6th-grade students from Mandoulides Schools had a unique opportunity to explore the city center of Thessaloniki in a special way! They participated in the educational treasure hunt  “Find Alexander the Great,” helping his sister, the Mermaid, solve the mystery. This innovative activity used tablets to create a connection between ancient history and the present, making learning both fun and engaging.

“Find Alexander the Great” Game

The highlight of the trip was the treasure hunt game, “Find Alexander the Great”. This game used tablets to guide students through a series of clues and puzzles scattered around the site. Each clue was a piece of a larger story, teaching students about the myths and legends of ancient and contemporary Thessaloniki. The use of technology in this context was brilliant. It kept the students engaged and made the historical facts more relatable and easier to remember.

Educational trips like this one offer numerous benefits. They provide a hands-on learning experience that enhances students’ understanding and retention of information. In this case, the treasure hunt game helped students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. It also encouraged teamwork, as students had to work together to solve the puzzles and crack the code. These are valuable skills that will serve them well in their future education and beyond.

Bringing History to Life

One of the most significant benefits of this summer school trip experience was how it brought history to life. Instead of just reading about history in textbooks, students were able to see and touch the traces of history in the city. This kind of immersive learning helps students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the past.

Innovative Approach to Education
